WARSAW, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Poland on Monday signed a contract to produce more than 10,000 precision-guided rockets domestically, marking the country's first local production, Polish media reported.
The contract was signed between the Armament Agency and a consortium composed of the joint-venture Hanwha WB Advanced System Sp. z o.o. and Hanwha Aerospace Co. Ltd. It covers the production of precision-guided rockets with a range of 80 kilometers for the Homar-K multiple rocket launcher system.
The deal is valued at about 14 billion Polish zlotys (3.89 billion U.S. dollars), with deliveries scheduled between 2030 and 2033.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said the agreement turns independence in rocket production for the Homar-K system into reality and marks a shift from Poland acting as a buyer of military equipment to becoming a co-producer. ■
