BISHKEK, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev has been stripped of several state awards by a presidential decree signed by incumbent president Sadyr Japarov, the presidential service said Monday.

According to the official presidential website, the decree was issued pursuant to a verdict of the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek dated June 3, 2025, and in accordance with national legislation.

As a result, Atambayev was deprived of the "Kyrgyz Respublikasynyn Baatyry" (Hero of the Kyrgyz Republic) title, the "Manas" Order of second degree, the "Danaker" (Peacekeeping) Order, and the "Dank" (Glory) Medal.

The decree also annulled several earlier presidential decrees issued in 1999, 2007 and 2017, as well as a relevant provision of the 2011 decree awarding state honors to Atambayev.

Atambayev, 69, served as prime minister of Kyrgyzstan twice and held the presidency from December 2011 to November 2017. ■
